Let the music come out of you
I’ve come to identify the moment or moments in conversations where I have a choice to make a call in my head. I can keep on track and not tell myself my sad story in SILENCE or dump on the one I love and drag her into the ‘poor-me club’, or go the other way to ANGER (yell back louder).
No, I refuse to go into my sad story. I make the choice and call. I’m not going down that path ’cause I will miss out on the gold of this important conversation.
If I want the best conversation, it’s up to me.
Just think: If I’m going to dump on Margaret, that’s going to make her anxious and can knock her down emotionally. I can turn her away from me without even knowing it. That’s crazy!
Going into silence or anger is like sipping your own poison. It’s important at the start of a conversation to have these questions in mind.
- What do I want from this chat?
- What do I think the other person wants out of this conversation?
- How can we stay safe in this conversation and get the best result for both of us?
The Big Fella showed me that at any moment in conversation I can call upon his Spirit in my heart and soul to take over my mouth and motives and ask him to guide me back on track to go for the best outcome.
It’s God’s call in me. As I’ve chosen to ask God to be the guide of my life, heart and soul, his Spirit is within me and I don’t need to do this battle in my own strength. I’m his consequence and he ain’t going to derail me with someone I love.
It’s up to you, Champion, if you want this spiritual part for yourself. But you can have it too, if you want – all you have to do is ask the Big Fella!
He’ll guide us back to better outcomes. He gives me a peace and satisfaction that keeps me on track in the conversation. He picks me up, dusts me down, restores my soul and encourages me back into the battle of life again and again.
The Work Manual says that all things work together for good for those who love the Big Fella (Romans 8:28). That’s me! It works and God’s got me covered. I’ve learned to trust him and I try to include him in every chat.
If and when you choose to go with the spiritual part of you, you have spiritual discernment within you from God’s Spirit. It’s another winning promise.
Fellas, here’s a gem from the Work Manual worth a bit of good thinking time.
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no-one. (1 Corinthians 2:14–15 ESV)
Watto’s version: If we deny the spiritual part of who we are because we think it’s all hogwash, we miss God’s Spirit within our spirit. Without God’s Spirit we can stay in our head, thinking the same old, same old, and missing the gold. But with the Big Fella’s Spirit working within our spirit and mind, we can begin to understand His ways. Then problems and challenges in dealing with people and situations become clearer with His insight and we can expect exciting times with winning outcomes.
