Team tips from the Big Fella

Team tips from the Big Fella

Champion, building a great team starts with recognising how fantastic the girl of your dreams really is. Let’s not get religious or super-spiro here. Let’s just have a look at the facts, and then you consider.

How’s this super gem from the Work Manual about how wonderful a woman can be? It’s a hidden treasure that tells about a woman who lives her life in awe of the Big Fella.

An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. (Proverbs 31:10–12 ESV)

It talks about how she does a champion job running a home and a business, and helps people in need. Her husband is honoured in the community because he’s the blessed-out of- his-socks man married to her! She should feel like a champion also.

She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates. (Proverbs 31:26–31 ESV)

I grew to see how this played out for George and Ted, the champion blokes who inspired me when I was a young husband. Their wives were just like this girl in the Work Manual, and then I realised, so is my Margaret!

But if no-one had shown me this gold nugget in the Work Manual I would never have known my wife, lover and best friend Margaret – top-shelf, drop-dead gorgeous, amazing woman – fits the bill as a Work Manual woman in my life. Fellas, this is how good it gets.

Champion, is your woman like this?

If not, whose fault do you think it might be? Do you want to turn it around?

Have a red-hot think about these words in the Work Manual. The husband and children praise this woman for how amazing she is. Do you praise your woman for the amazing things she does? And remember: Your children will learn how to treat their mother from you. I’ve never seen anyone go backwards with encouragement!
