Not listening kills relationships

Too often a bloke thinks he knows what’s going on in his woman’s head. He tries to read her mind.

If we just shut up and listen to her with all our heart, we hear the really true feelings of the problem. Then we can exchange our feelings. The woman will listen to you because you listened to her. Too often man thinks he has to solve the problem and he’s in charge of things.

I’ve learned this in the university of hard knocks. I’ve tried to read my wife Margaret’s mind. One day she said, ‘I don’t want you to fix it, all I want you to do is listen to me!’ And you know what? When I did shut up and listen to her, I went, ‘Wow, gee I’ve got a clever wife.’ Usually you can solve the problem if you listen to each other.

It’s critical to listen to your children, too. If you don’t listen to each one of them, some can miss out. The quiet children can miss out completely and shut down. The dominating personality can take the floor all the time and the others just tag along.

It’s vital to get with your own son or daughter in a simple way and really listen to their hearts and feelings. If you’re going to make a big decision as a family, make sure you talk to all your children, and find out what they think about it.
