Learn How to Give Encouraging Turbocharged Words

‘Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act’ (Proverbs 3:27). That little gem is from my favourite book, the Bible, which has so much practical advice for blokes that I call it the Work Manual for the Champion Life. (Try to get a chance to read it sometime – you might be surprised how good it is, like I was!)

Don’t hold back with your turbocharged word to those who deserve it. When you have the power to encourage someone else, say what’s in your heart. Just speak out honestly and watch them fly!

If you feel strange and you don’t know how to do this, try practising a turbocharged warm-and-fuzzy word on a baby if there’s one nearby. Little babies bring something amazing out of a bloke, we let the guard down.

Come on, let go, try it, it won’t hurt you. The Work Manual says some more about this: ‘If we can encourage others, we should encourage them’ (Romans 12:8) and ‘We should keep on encouraging each other to be thoughtful and to do helpful things’ (Hebrews 10:25).

Have the courage to just gently let the word come out, and then don’t spend the next week justifying what you said. If it’s positive and it’s come from the heart, just let it be.

People don’t die from over-praise or over-encouragement. I’ve never seen a bloke go backwards with encouragement!
